Fractional CTO · AI Advisory
Practical AI transformation for companies that cannot afford to get it wrong
I help mid-market companies navigate AI adoption with the rigour of 35 years in enterprise IT and the perspective of someone who has shipped a production SaaS platform solo.
What I Do
Three ways I work with clients
Each engagement is shaped around what your company actually needs, not a fixed methodology.
Fractional CTO
Many companies reach a point where technical decisions carry real strategic weight, but the workload does not justify a full-time CTO. I step in as a senior technology partner, typically one to two days a week, working with your leadership on architecture, hiring, vendor selection, and technical direction.
AI Readiness Assessment
Before committing budget to AI, it pays to understand what you are working with. I review your data landscape, existing systems, team skills, and risk tolerance, then deliver a clear report on where AI can genuinely help and where it cannot.
AI Implementation Support
Strategy without execution is just a slide deck. I work alongside your engineering teams to select the right AI tools, build working integrations, deploy Claude Code and MCP workflows, and get AI operating inside your actual business processes.
Proof of Capability
I have not just advised on this. I have built it.
The hardest thing to find in a fractional CTO is someone who has genuinely built and shipped production software, not just advised on it from the sidelines.
I designed, built, and operate a SaaS platform used by healthcare professionals at the UCSF Center for Mindfulness in Surgery. Every architecture decision, every deployment, every line of code. No team. No co-founders. Just AI tools and three decades of engineering instinct.

About
Background
I spent the first three decades of my career in enterprise IT, most recently at Shell, leading infrastructure and digital transformation programmes across multiple continents. I know what it takes to get technology initiatives moving inside large, complex organisations, and I know the common ways they fail.
In 2018 I started building what became BeWell Catalyst, a digital wellbeing platform now used at the UCSF Center for Mindfulness in Surgery. I built and operate it solo, using AI development tools as my engineering team. That experience gives me something most advisors lack: a current, hands-on understanding of what AI can actually do in production, not just in a demo.
I also hold an MSc in Mindfulness-Based Approaches from Bangor University, which informs my work on the Mindful Tech Leader programme and gives me a practical understanding of the human side of technology transformation.
